As the warning signs continue to flash with the non appointment of Eddie Howe to Celtic, there is some news that should set the alarm bells ringing for not only the Celtic fans but also the board.

According to Oddschecker, Eddie Howe is amongst one of the favourites to take over the hot seat Arsenal. Current Arsenal boss, former Rangers star Mikel Arteta, is under severe pressure following the London side’s capitulation in Thursday nights Europa League semi final 0-0 draw with Villarreal.

The draw saw The Gunners eliminated 2-1 on aggregate effectively ending Arsenal’s hopes of European football for next season as well.

Arsenal now face their first season without European football for twenty five years which is now prompting the fans to demand change.  Howe entered the bookies reckoning at 11/1 last night and he went straight into the top ten of bookies favourites along with Rafa Benitez, Brendan Rodgers and Massimiliano Allegri.

After the defeat to Villarreal Arteta said, “We are devastated. Really disappointed. We have to congratulate Villarreal. We tried everything until the last minute.

“I think we deserved to win the game but the details define these ties. The only way [to qualify for Europe] is through the Premier League so we know what we have ahead of us.

“Today is a big disappointment because we tried everything.”

And as The Gunners sit ninth in the league with only six points left to play, that European place has never been further away. It looks like Celtic may have a massive fight on their hands to get their man, and it’s a fight they must win.
