Sunderland are keen on signing Celtic winger Lewis Morgan during this month’s transfer window, according to The Daily Star.

Morgan emerged as a serious talent under the guidance of former St Mirren boss Jack Ross, who currently manages the Black Cats, and he is keen on reuniting with his former prospect, say the paper.

The report states this would be on a loan basis, rather than a permanent switch, which could suit all parties perfectly.

There is little scope for Morgan getting game time in the second half of the season with the arrival of Oliver Burke, who will likely compete for places in the starting eleven with Scott Sinclair, James Forrest and Mikey Johnstone.

The 22-year-old has made 13 appearances for the Hoops since joining from St Mirren in the summer, but only one of those was a start, with the rest coming from the bench for various amounts of time.

A half season out on loan to a team chasing promotion is a great opportunity for the Scotland international, even if the experience does come at English League One level.

Getting our outgoing transfers right this month is almost as important as the incoming deals, so hopefully we find a suitable place for Morgan to place his football for the next few months, if he’s not going to get starting chances in Brendan Rodgers’ side.
