Wolves are tracking the progress of Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna, just a couple of months after Celtic made him one of their summer transfer targets, according to The Scottish Sun.

The paper say that scouts from the English Premier League outfit were in attendance during last weekend’s 1-0 win over Motherwell at Pittodrie, keen to bolster their defensive line.

With Aston Villa also keen to bring him south of the border, he continues to be a wanted man.

The Hoops made a reported bid of around £3.5m for the Dons stopper in August, which was swiftly rejected. Celtic soon ended their interest knowing that Aberdeen were not willing to sell him and because the player is tied down to a long-term contract, making him an expensive option.

He was never a popular option with Celtic supporters and hasn’t really ingratiated himself with the Hoops fans since then after poleaxing Odsonne Edouard during the recent league match between the two sides.

With English Premier League and Championship sides showing increasing interest, his value is only likely to go up. Surely there are players who represent better value available?

The centre-back area is one that will continue to be a priority heading into the January transfer window though with Dedryck Boyata just months away from his contract expiring and Filip Benkovic only on loan at the club for a year, without an option to buy.
