And so it was, Boavista would travel to Glasgow and record a 1-1 draw to set up a tense second leg in Portugal. Surely Celtic couldn’t ride their luck again and record another away victory in the heat of Portugal; the travel time, the congestion of fixtures, it’s safe to assume that these bhoys were tired but they were battlers and weren’t about to lay down and just submit and see all this hard work up until now mean nothing. Classy counter attacking Germans couldn’t stop us, two former English title winning teams couldn’t stop us, a skillful Spanish outfit who would finish fourth in La Liga that year couldn’t stop us, not under MON’s watch would Henrik Larsson and the bhoys lose here.

“I knew that Celtic FC not only had the best fans in the world but were the best team in the world to support”

But it was looking that way as the Portuguese outfit put up a valiant defense and not until the 80th minute when Larsson once again saved the day with a goal. The away crowd go ecstatic, Boavista put up a late charge but nothing was to come of it. Celtic FC of Scotland, one of Europe’s supposed B Leagues, have done it and reached a European Final. Bring on FC Porto.

The fans travelled in their thousands to Seville but I’m afraid that’s where we leave it. It was an emotional journey full of near misses but we made it and made it in style (gentle nod to city neighbours). That’s how you reach a European Final. Goodbye bhoys and ghirls, I hope you have as much fun reading this as I have writing it. This was when I truly knew which team to support and ever since that impressionable twelve year old kid saw these magnificent group of players put heart and soul into getting to the final, I knew that Celtic FC not only had the best fans in the world but were the best team in the world to support.

Watch out for my coverage of the final, although it ended trophy less my previous statement came true and we won a FIFA fair play award for our behaviour in Seville (gentle nod to city neighbours), unlike you lot.
