A lot of speculation around Brendan Rodgers circulated over the last couple of weeks with EFL Championship side Aston Villa looking for a new manager.

Despite Brendan ruling himself out right at the very early stages of the Villans’ search, the rumours did persist and it wasn’t until they appointed Dean Smith we could all properly move on.

For sure, though, it’s a reminder that he is going to be linked with jobs south of the border after the job he has done here and Chris Sutton has been thinking about his potential successor.

In his latest column, then, he suggests Neil Lennon should return to take the Bhoys to 10 if Rodgers leaves:

I can just tell, though, that this is going to divide opinion.

Lennon was a good player for us and won things for us as a manager, too, but is he the sort of successor we want to Rodgers?

I can’t see Brendan leaving any time soon anyway, but I think we’d have to be more ambitious if and when he does go.
