There has been a lot said about Celtic striker, Leigh Griffiths, substitution at half time in the 2-1 loss at home against St Mirren at the weekend.  Lennon subbed the enigmatic striker as he looked to find a way back into the match, but ex Celtic player Frank McAvennie reckons there was a more sinister reason behind hooking the Scotland international off.

Speaking to  Football Insider, McAvennie said, “It is a strange one, what has happened to Griff.

“He is out of the team again and I do not know why. I do not get it because he is the best finisher at the club.

“I heard there was an argument at half-time. But it does not matter if you like the guy, I am a great believer in that. Manager and player do not have to get on, it is about playing the best players. Managers have to swallow their pride.

“The nonsense earlier in the season about him not being fit made no sense whatsoever.”

Griffiths was made to sit on the bench in last nights 4-0 romp over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park and saw his replacement, Albian Ajeti, take full advantage of his opportunity as the big Swiss striker netted Celtic’s fourth in the 86th minute.

Lennon said it was a tactical desicion that led to Griffiths being dropped to the bench as he said, “I wasn’t happy with the strikers at the weekend, {the decision to drop Griffiths} is purely tactical.”
