ex Rangers player takes the “moral” aim at Lennon. Best not mention his EBT then?

|

Another ex player from the other side of the city has decided to show up and take a pop at the Celtic manager. Speaking to the Football Insider, Alan Hutton has described his outrage at the recent goings on at Celtic Park and the fact the team took the trip to Dubai during a global pandemic.

Hutton said, “The people have forced his hand to come out and apologise.

“He’s done the right thing, they’ve made a mistake, but you’ve got Lawwell, on one hand, coming out and apologising and then you’ve got Neil Lennon, who’s the manager, on the other hand saying that nothing was wrong.

“It’s giving out mixed signals so I totally understand why people are outraged with it. After the Rangers game you’re thinking the last thing this Celtic team needs is to be going away to Dubai with everything that’s going on.

“They were in the wrong going away, it’s as simple as that, they should never have done it and then this doesn’t happen. That’s the simple fact of the matter.”

Now this story has been done to death. The argument of the “right thing to do” or “never broke any rules” has been long debated so I’m leaving it there but I will not do is take morality lessons from a player who earned millions at a club that flouted the tax rules in order to pay players exorbitant  amounts of money.

I will not take morality lessons from a player that received over £380,000 in EBT’s and never handed over a penny in tax denying the public services vital cash.

I wonder if the team at Football Insider asked Hutton that, even though at the time of receiving his EBT it wasn’t against the rules, should he have taken it even though it was morally wrong?  In your own words Allan, “You were in the wrong, it’s as simple as that. You should never have done it. That’s the simple fact of the matter”
