We all know Neil Lennon is still the manager of Celtic and most of us are resigned to the fact that he is possibly going to move on in the summer. He has “enjoyed” a rather tumultuous season this term regardless of his success at sealing the Quadruple Treble, the fans are, quite rightly, unhappy about how this season has unravelled.
With their Glasgow rivals storming ahead in the league and the only chance of silverware now being the Scottish Cup, the future for Lennon does not look good. However, there is light over the horizon for the Celtic fans and they have been told that Desmond is likely to act dramatically and bring in a box office appointment next summer.
Speaking to the Celtic Huddle Podcast , The Sun Journalist Derek McGregor expects the major shareholder to make a massive appointment in a bid to wrestle power back from Govan should their rivals win the league this season, “I think throughout Dermot Desmond’s tenure, he’s not really one that makes statements, they’re very, very rare – but what he tends to do is make dramatic moves. It’s by actions that he makes his statements. There’s been no bigger one than when he brought Brendan Rodgers in. In terms of a wow factor, that was huge.
“The theory was that at the time, he felt he had to act big in the aftermath of an embarrassing cup semi-final defeat to a then-Championship Rangers and he certainly acted with conviction. Will he do the same again this time? I think it could well be the case. Clearly, season ticket sales are massive for Celtic. I think certainly we’re looking at a tumultuous summer for Celtic. I think there could be huge change from top to bottom. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Dermot decided to opt for a kind of so-called Hollywood name as such.”
Celtic fans will be hoping that this is the case as they remember all too well the kind of success that type of manager can bring.
