Celtic have a fantastic chance to pick up a rare away win in Europe on Thursday, with Rosenborg setting their sights on other challenges beyond the UEFA Europa League.

With zero points from their first four matches in the competition, the Norwegian champions have all but given up on European action and are now winding down their 2018 season after the final day of their league campaign this weekend.

One big challenge does remain for Thursday’s home side though, this Sunday’s Norwegian Cup final against Stromgodset. That’s a massive match for Rosenborg and it could benefit Brendan Rodgers’ side.

That may mean that our hosts’ team is heavily rotated for what is a crunch encounter from our perspective. Three points of course would keep us in the hunt for knockout qualification.

Anything less than that will make it very difficult with the two Red Bull sides going head-to-head in Salzburg this week.

It’s obviously true that Celtic also have a cup final this weekend, but progression in Europe is still viable for us so there’ll be no rest for key players when we take to the pitch in Norway.

The Hoops have conceded just one goal in our last five meetings with Rosenborg and that came in a 3-1 victory at Celtic Park. Our last two visits to Trondheim have resulted in clean sheets and positive results.

Can we find another this week?
