Former Celtic defender Kolo Toure has landed the top job at Wigan Athletic.

Fabrizio Romano announced this morning that Toure has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with The Latics in a bid to stave off relegation to League One.

Wigan are languishing in 22nd place in England’s second tier [BBC] and after a bleak run of results of only one win in their last five matches, a change has been made and Toure has now been charged to stop the rot and save them from the dreaded drop.

Toure was brought to Celtic by Brendan Rodgers back in 2016 and during his time at the club made 17 first-team appearances.

He then retired the following season and took up a coaching role at the club in a move that kick-started his managerial career.

When he was appointed as Celtic coach, Rodgers said at the time, “This is great news for Celtic that we are able to bring a man of Kolo’s experience into our coaching team. In everything he does, he is quite simply a fantastic example to anyone.” [The42.ie]

Toure was part of the Celtic squad that won the Invincibles Treble and if he can emulate half the success he had as a player, then he will no doubt become a very fine manager.

Who were Celtic’s most expensive transfer additions in these seasons?
