According to Gianluca di Marzio, Celtic had an £8.8m bid for full-back Timothy Castagne rejected by his current side Atalanta.

The Belgian was linked with the club during the January window and it was clear that we were keen on him.

Indeed, we needed a new full-back to come in and he seemed the one we wanted – but we could not get a deal over the line, even for that kind of money.

It might be for the best, too, with Jeremy Toljan proving a far cheaper option and, indeed, a rather good one at that.

Toljan has settled quickly and seems to have forged a quick relationship with those around him – in particular fellow new signing Timothy Weah.

And so, whilst I liked the look of Castagne and think he could well end up being a good player – I don’t think that we’re particularly missing him as things stand right now.
