As reported by The Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are the latest club to emerge as contenders for the signature of Kieran Tierney this summer.

With Everton already linked with a move for the full-back in recent days, the prospect of the youngster moving on during this transfer window is growing, despite both the club and the player clearly happy with his situation in Glasgow.

The interest of Everton is one thing. They can’t offer the player UEFA Champions League football, nor a realistic chance of winning major honours in England, two things that a player with Tierney’s ability should surely be seeking if he does move on.

However, Tottenham are a different beast entirely, with Mauricio Pochettino and Harry Kane both recently committing their long-term futures to the club in an effort to take their project to the next level.

That kind of ambition could be appealing to Tierney, especially since they can also offer him top-tier European football next season.

The reported fees on offer to Celtic for his signature are a mind-boggling £25m, according to The Mail. To put that into perspective, that’s almost as much money as the Hoops would earn in an entire Champions League campaign.

As much as Celtic fans adore Tierney, a feeling reciprocated by the player himself, it’s the kind of fee that the club can’t really afford to turn down as they look to compete with increasingly cash rich clubs around Europe.

Any sale of a fan favourite like the left-back will undoubtedly draw negativity, but this could be an opportunity for the Hoops to take their transfer cycle to new heights and set the benchmark for young talents leaving the club for years to come.

Despite the emotion involved, hard business might determine that Tierney’s departure is inevitable.
