Football Insider recently reported that Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic has agreed personal terms ahead of a move to Lille and since that moment Jackie McNamara has offered his thoughts.
The former Hoop was speaking to the same outlet and revealed that he thinks that a lack of game-time potentially on the way for Simunovic is the reason that he could well end up in France before the transfer window is shut.
“It’s hard to keep everyone happy, like Simunovic, you’ve got Jack Hendry there as well.
“(In the starting XI) You’ve got Ajer, Jullien – they’ve got a lot of options there. In some sense there will be players there who want to move out, that maybe aren’t going to feature so they’ll want to go out and play and they’ll (Celtic) use that to strengthen other areas.”
Certainly, you can see where Jackie is coming from but I wouldn’t necessarily agree that we are stock full of centre-backs.
He’s named some of the players we’ve got but past Jullien and Ajer we have lost quite a few players that would have competed for a start.
Jack Hendry hasn’t convinced me enough yet and though Jozo has his moments I would suggest we’ll need a replacement for him if he does leave the club, as looks set to be the case.
