Celtic full-back Adam Matthews hopes to be available for the weekend game with St Johnstone but was still targeting his comeback for the Scottish Cup final against Hibernian a fortnight later.

“I’ll try to ease my way in and be ready for the final” – Adam Matthews

The Hoops will receive the SPL trophy immediately following their Saturday lunchtime meeting with the Perth side.

Matthews, 21, hasn’t tasted any senior action since damaging his hamstring during the Champions League tie at Juventus back in early March.

“I’ve trained hard in the last couple of days and there’s been no recurrence of the injury, so I’m hoping to be fit for the weekend,” he told the Glasgow Evening Times. “It was my first hamstring injury, but I’ve done my rehab properly so it shouldn’t return.

“The cup final’s my aim,” Matthews admitted. “I’m not going to rush back because the league has already been won, so I’ll try to ease my way in and be ready for the final.”
