Celtic have utterly dominated Scottish football in recent times, and it is expected that the Bhoys will target potential incomings to solidify their status as the best team in Scotland further. One such player is Swansea City’s Jordan Ayew, yet does the Ghanaian forward represent value for money?

Reports in the media have suggested that the Scottish champions are interested in signing the 26-year-old forward, and while the player has denied claims that he’s close to joining the Bhoys, there could be superior options available that Celtic should choose to pursue.

This isn’t to insinuate that Ayew is a bad player, his terrific endeavours with Swansea almost certified that the Welsh side prolonged their status as Premier League team, but it’s likely that his signature will command a substantial investment, one that Celtic may not be able to afford – especially after the recent signing of Edouard.

As previously mentioned, the Ghanaian striker was an instrumental figure for the Swans last season. Despite their relegation to the Championship, Jordan Ayew demonstrated his ability to flourish in arguably the most competitive division in world football. In 44 appearances for Swansea City, the striker amassed an impressive total of 11 goals. One can envisage how proficiently ruthless Ayew could be in the Scottish Premiership where defences aren’t of corresponding quality to the Premier League.

However, given Ayew’s significance to Swansea, and the fact that several teams are reportedly interested in his signature, the Welsh side are within their rights to demand a substantial fee for their centre-forward.

Realistically, the only way that Celtic could afford a player of Ayew’s calibre would be selling one of their best players, and despite the quality that he possesses, Moussa Dembele is far superior to Ayew. Celtic should concentrate their focus elsewhere.
