There are some pundits I like to listen to for informed opinion. People like Chris Sutton for example for all of his grandiose statements, I always find his punditry fair and consistent as well as his critical analysis of Celtic. And then there are some other pundit’s I listen to and think, ‘How did you seriously get this gig?’  And there are many of those type.

Celtic fans know fine well that those kind of pundit’s are usually from the Govan end of the market and have a complete inability to be impartial when it comes to anything Celtic and it seems to always ramp up a notch whenever the conversation turns to anything negative towards the Hoops.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Alex Rae suggests Celtic fans should forget Belgium boss, Roberto Martinez, taking over at Paradise as he questions the Hoops board’s ability to match his current international salary, “I think he’s out of  Celtics price range, firstly partly because of his stature. He’s actually managing the number one seeded team in the world.  I just I just I just think the guy’s stats show where he’s at.  I think he would be looking at a real big job and again, people talk about a particular style of play.

Should Roberto Martinez replace Neil Lennon?

YES

NO

“Martinez has got a really free flowing style, manages to play that even when he was at Wigan,  he really played some decent stuff. So for me, Martinez is a pipe dream.”

Martinez extended his contract last season with the Belgians in which he reportedly DOUBLED his annual salary of €1.2m which I would estimate to be just over £2m per season.  Considering Celtic paid Neil Lennon £2.4m to manage the Hoops, Celtic could easily afford to tempt the Spaniard in terms of salary.

The only stumbling block for me is the Scottish Premiership enough to persuade Martinez to drop the top rated Belgian national side?  Clearly a crack at the Champions League could sway the Spanish coach and if he was after another move the English Premier League, Martinez just needs to look at the exposure former Celtic gaffer, Brendan Rodgers, received if you make a success of the Glasgow giants.
