Ange Postecoglou has certainly caught the hearts and minds of every single Celtic fan.

Before he landed in Glasgow’s East End, not everyone knew a lot about the former Australian international coach, but my goodness do they know now.

His brand of football has captured the imagination of the Celtic fans after a bumpy start to his Paradise career but one man that knew all about Ange, incredibly revealed how he tried to take him to the English Premier League.

In a report by The Daily Mail, Michael Bridges admitted that he was impressed when he first clapped eyes on Postecoglou.

He knew all about the Aussie coach and even recommended him to Aston Villa before Gerrard was appointed boss.

Bridges is a full time pundit at Australian media station Optus Sport and also spent some time Down Under back in 2007.

But it was the job Postecoglou did for the Socceroo’s that made Bridges take the bold step in trying to get the outspoken coach to the English Premier League, “I once tried to get him to Sunderland.

“I gave him massive wraps for what he did over in Australia, what he did for the national team.

“Now he’s won the fans over at Celtic and is everybody going, ‘Who is this guy? What’s he all about?’

‘He is a guy that can sort out this type of stuff at Villa.

“He’s the type of guy that can be a massive, massive wildcard and I’m just gonna put it out there just so everybody knows about this guy and how good he is on and off the field.

“What he’s had to go through to handle all the managerial scrutiny from all the press up in Scotland – he’s handled it absolutely brilliantly.”

Could you imagine the uproar if Villa took up his recommendation and attempted to poach Ange instead of Gerrard?

Frightening thought.
