A striker? Again?

I’ve written on many occasions that Celtic should be looking at other areas of the team as we have suitable cover in that department but it seems the club are looking at Senegalese international Bamba Dieng.

According to Homme du Match, the Hoops are ‘interested’ in the 22-year-old forward as Ange Postecoglou looks to strengthen the side ahead of the Champions League groups stages that start in September.

Dieng currently plays for French giants Marseille and according to the report, he is not part of coach Igor Tudor’s plans.

According to the Daily Record, the fee would be in the region of £8m should the club decide to make their move, but English sides Newcastle, West Ham and Leeds are all said to be gaining interest in him.

Dieng started his career at Diambars FC in the Senegalese National league.

After fourteen appearances and scoring twelve goals, the youngster finished the season as the club’s top goalscorer.

He caught the eye of Marseille and signed for the club in October 2020 and scored in his debut in the French cup with a last-minute strike in a 2-0 over Auxerre.

Since then he made 36 appearances for the club last season and scored eight and created three.

The Marseille forward made his full international debut against Namibia in a 2022 World Cup qualifier in October of last year.

There is no doubt at just 22 years old, Dieng could develop into a very good player but if that £8m price tag is to be believed, are Celtic of a mind to be shelling out that kind of money after the huge outlay required in the signing of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota?
