With Celtic predicted to make more moves in the transfer window, Davie Provan has urged Celtic gaffer Ange Postecoglou to make a surprising move to bolster the goalkeeping position.

It wasn’t that long ago Provan was decrying the signing of Joe Hart and touting the services of Benji Seigrest as the former Celtic midfielder claimed that Hart was an ‘appeasement’ signing by Dermot Desmond to the Celtic fans.

Well now he has thrown another goalkeeping name into the hat which, strangely, sounds like another appeasement signing. Provan was speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, when he said Postecoglou should turn his attention to out of favour Derby County goalkeeper David Marshall.

Marshall is now third in the pecking order at County as, boss Wayne Rooney, no longer sees a future for the Scotland No 1 at the club and Provan reckons Marshall would be the perfect competition for Hart,  “Wayne Rooney has made it clear that David Marshall has finished at Derby. He’s now number three in the pecking order.

“Would it not make sense for Celtic to go and get David Marshall?

“And get him for nothing, probably, and have him and Joe Hart, fighting for the gloves?

“Barkas is going isn’t he? As I said, the sooner the better.  Not just for Celtic but for Barkas as well.

“And hopefully his agent is working on a deal for him now to move him on.

“And that would leave room, and I think David Marshall would make sense.”

Now I know Barkas has not had the greatest time in his early Celtic career, but who knows what magic Postecoglou to work on him to get him to the required standard now he is out the limelight.

Look at what the Aussie gaffer has achieved with Anthony Ralston, Tom Rogic and Ryan Christie is such a short space of time.

Plus are the board of a mind to write off £5m worth of talent?

I think not.
