Celtic youngster Mikey Johnston has fans excited ahead of the new season after shining in a closed doors friendly game against BW Linz on Tuesday morning.

The 19-year-old Hoops winger scored in the match and was a constant threat throughout the 90 minutes, proving again that he is knocking on the door of Brendan Rodgers’ match-day squads.

The player has already caught the eye previously this summer, shining for Scotland in the prestigious Toulon Tournament, making the best XI team.

Now he’s ready to make an impact at club level too and the next couple of months could be massive for the youngster. With the departure of Patrick Roberts and Stuart Armstrong, there’s more room than ever to make his way into Rodgers’ plans.

It’ll be interesting to see if he now features in European qualifiers this summer. With the schedule set to be tough so early in the season, Rodgers will need the players playing at peak form in his team and Johnston is certainly making himself a candidate.
