As Celtic look to raise an assault on the domestic season, the chat around the rebuild suggested that the Parkhead club may have to forego any hopes of silverware as Ange Postecoglou needed time to assemble a first team squad capable of unseating Rangers as champions.

With Celtic looking to strengthen the defence, one area of the team that Celtic are very strong in is the midfield area.

One man that Chris Sutton thinks is key to Celtic’s chances of success this year is one that has virtually been missing from the side since the departure of Brendan Rodgers more than three years ago.

Speaking on Premier Sports, Sutton said, “I mentioned that midfield earlier. Such good competition for places.

“It looks like McGregor will play the pivot role and they’ve got Soro who can play that role. Lots of competition in those areas.

“I was really pleased to see the emergence of Tom Rogic but him coming back on form I think he is an outstanding player.

“And a player that Ange Postecoglou knows inside out.

“He could be absolutely key this season for Celtic.”

There is absolutely no doubt that Rogic is like a different player this season, a new signing you could say, and the Celtic supporters have seen glimpses of the Tom Rogic of old when the big Aussie used to float past the opposition players in Rodgers’ Invincibles team.

With doubts always raised about Rogic’s fitness, one wonders what Postecoglou could get out of his compatriot id he was able to get a full 90 mins from him.
