Chicago Fire’s General Manager Nelson Rodriguez has confirmed that trialist Andrew Gutman has turned down an offer of a new contract at the MLS club, instead preferring to make the move to Scotland and Celtic.

22-year-old Gutman is one of the US based players we’ve had with us in the last few weeks as manager Brendan Rodgers cast a closer eye over them, and at least in the left back’s case, it seems we have offered him a firm contract offer – but the ink on the deal isn’t dry yet as we are still to announce him formally.

Sky Sports are one of a number of outlets to carry Rodriguez’s confirmation of his choice to play for us and Rodgers had previously spoken about being impressed with the lad and being interested in bringing him in this month, so presumably he will be the fourth new face through the door following the arrivals of Vakoun Issouf Bayo, Oliver Burke and Timothy Weah.

“Andrew was offered a contract but chose not to accept it. Instead he decided to go with the offer from Celtic, so good luck to him.”
