After a hard fought win over Aberdeen on Sunday, there has been talk of the style in which the three points were picked up.

There was very little ‘Angeball’ to be seen. That high press and swashbuckling attacking style that the Celtic supporters have fleetingly witnessed was rarely seen.

However, we did see Ange Postecoglou take up a change in personnel when he picked Nir Bitton to play in the central holding role in midfield in a move that surprised me, and probably many more, Celtic fans.

Bitton has always been used primarily as a central defender for as long as I can remember and his selection in the first team raised eyebrows firstly because he has been a bit part player this season but mainly because of his primary role in the team on Sunday.

With the Hoops winning ugly, speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Hugh Keevins has claimed that Ange gave up on his free flowing football in order to pick up the points he so badly needed, “Every Celtic supporter who was either up at Pittodrie or watching on television or listening to Superscoreboard. All that mattered was a win.

“And that win has been achieved. And in places achieved with some style, the winning goal is as good a goal as you’ll see.

“And it just means that Ange Postecoglou can breathe again.

“Celtic will have other games in the month of October that will test them to the full.

“But he has avoided, what ever you want to call it, but for the remainder of this day and this weekend he’s avoided any chaos or any mayhem or any ill feeling, and he has compromised his principles to an extent.

“I think he has recognised what people have been saying about his team, his formation its tactics, and he has compromised and Celtic were all the better for it.”
