With the current “crisis” on the Celtic playing front, there is also adversity in the boardroom.

With the recent removal of Dom McKay as Celtic’s Chief Executive, the intrigue attributed to finding out the truth of the CEO’s departure has now been replaced with a yearning at who is going to replace the former SRU man.

We may not have to wait too long as Irish blogger Phil Mac Giolla Bháin has hinted in his recent piece that there may be major boardroom changes afoot at Celtic Park.

Phil intimated that golfer Paul McGinley has been approached to take a seat in the Parkhead power room.

McGinley is a life long Celtic fan and may jump at the chance to have a say in the running of his boyhood hero’s.

Phil also hinted that a new Chief Executive appointment may be in the offing.

With the Irish Rugby Union CEO Phillip Browne announcing his retirement, Phil reckons that an approach could be forthcoming for the experienced executive and that his close ties with billionaire majority shareholder, Dermot Desmond, could be used as leverage to seal the deal.

Of course, this is just rumour and Phil does point to his well placed source inside Celtic as the basis of his claims, but with Celtic making a key backroom appointment today at the club, could the movement upstairs be an inkling that the board do recognise material change is required to take the club forward?

There is no doubt, Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou needs support at this time, and hopefully with changes upstairs, this will bring in fresh investment to strengthen the playing side.
