With Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton leaving the club this summer, there is no doubt Ange Postecoglou will be looking to strengthen the squad this summer.

With Champions League group stage football guaranteed, the Celtic boss will have to look at filling that void in midfield but it seems that Pete O’Rourke [via Transfer Tavern] has earmarked one player he believes will help bolster the squad for Europe and the Champions League, but it’s not a midfielder,  “It’s been a successful market for Celtic in the past, them raiding the French market, and maybe they’ll be hoping they could have more success if they do decide to pursue a move for Mendy as well.

“He looks like a talented player, and Postecoglou is planning ahead and looking to strengthen his squad with their Champions League football in mind next season.”

Mendy was linked with Celtic in the four weeks and it did seem that any deal for the Frenchman was dead in the water but these latest comments from O’Rourke will increase speculation on the 28 year old joining the club.

Reports in the French media had suggested that Celtic had submitted an offer of €3m for the Caen striker, it did seem that further reports claimed that Mendy was more focused on starting the season with the Ligue 2 side next season.
