“He was in full control, that was the problem” – Celtic referee’s remarkable criticism by prominent blogger

Most of you all know I love reading other Celtic sites and gauging their opinions and perspectives on all things that involve the club.

Whether that be talking about our rivals, future fixtures or past results, it’s always good to open your horizons and take in all opinions, whether you agree with them or not.

But I think we are in all agreement that referee Don Robertson had a poor game on Saturday night as he seemed to lose control of the discipline of the Alloa players.

With three Celtic players taken off injured due to poor and reckless tackling, The Celtic Blog had an interesting take on the referee performance.

My good friend James Forrest wrote, “Some have accused Robertson of losing control of the game; I don’t think he did.

“He was in full control, that was the problem.

“He made the conscious decision to let them away with everything short of literal murder, and he probably would only have shown the yellow card had an Alloa player gone that far.

“It was a refereeing performance of the most diabolical kind.”

Now that is a take I have never seen. All week commenters, bloggers, podcasters and even media men have all said the referee lost control of the match.

But to say he was in full control gives me the unending fear of just how bad the officials in Scotland really are.

It’s time the Celtic board spoke up but not in public. In private and address the standard of refereeing in this country because before too long, it won’t just be a Celtic players career that is ended by thuggish tackles.

It could be any player in the game.

I have to say that I am in agreement with James Forrest. Robertson and some others know exactly what they are doing. The authorities know what they are doing as well.

This issue of Alloa’s brutality on Saturday is not about whether the referee was or was not in control of the game, according to prominent!!!??? blogger Forrest. The SFA referees appointment group Crawford Allen & Co are the culpable party. They appointed a referee who only a few weeks ago was found totally incompetent when Turnbull was brutally attacked by the “Butcher” of Tannadice and was shown a YC by Robertson, which was upgraded to RC and a 3 game suspension by the SFA, a resounding condemnation of his performance. In my experience of many years in the game Robertson would have not have been appointed to such a high profile game following his Tannadice performance which in refereeing marking should have been unsatisfactory. Little wonder the current batch of Scottish refs get very few UEFA/FIFA appointments. Allen an Co are turning a blind eye to disgraceful performance from their chosen ELITE.
