Defender Dedryck Boyata wasn’t a very popular man at Celtic just a couple of weeks ago, but supporters can’t get enough of him right now.
Since he’s come back into the team, Brendan Rodgers’ side have looked far more composed at the back, with the Belgian’s presence appear to provide a new solidity that can actually be depended upon.
One shaky moment against Alfredo Morelos aside, he was superb again in today’s derby, showing that he is as committed as anyone in the Hoops team. Imperious in the air and accomplished on the ball, he is undoubtedly the best central defender at the club right now.
His performances have completely vindicated Brendan Rodgers’ controversial decision to bring him back into the first-team squad after the player refused to feature in European qualifiers in an effort to force a move away from the club.
Fans were delighted with him today and took to Twitter to share their thoughts…

Only days ago when tens of thousands of Celtic fans demanded that Boyata be punted.
I was one of them!
Thankfully, Brendan Rodgers doesn't listen to people like me.
He took emotion out of it and made a footballing based decision.
People like me were wrong.. Brendan was right!

Boyata showed where his head truely is today. And it was on the end of every cross ball that came into the box.

Boyata proved today what an absolute rock he can be at the back when he’s focused. If I was Rodgers I’d want to be getting him on an improved deal now and see if he can be persuaded to sign an extension. He was that immense today.

Boyata is a prick for his Athens escapades! But he was unquestionably brilliant today and if he signed a new long term deal I’d find it hard to be unhappy with that!

Boyata was sensational today. Glad he didn’t leave!
