The aftermath of a Glasgow Derby result more often than not takes up the rest of the weeks headlines regardless of who the victor is.

But this one was special. It was Ange Postecoglou’s first as Celtic manager and it was Steven Gerrard’s first as champions.

It has always been said that retaining a championship is always more difficult than winning one and it looks like Steven Gerrard may have been given a helping hand in that by the Celtic board.

Hugh Keevins was speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard when he said that Postecoglou had been hung out to dry by the board for their inactivity whilst the waited over one hundred days to appoint a manager, “I’ll tell you what. He (Postecoglou) has been hung out to dry by the Celtic hierarchy because Celtic spent 100 days in the summer doing nothing.

“And now the players are coming in, when it’s too late for the Champions League.

“It was too late for the Rangers game and so on and so forth.

“Now they are tumbling in before the end of the transfer deadline, but for 100 days, and clubs stood still.”

And (don’t judge me for this) Hugh is 100% on the money here.

Just imagine if the club had given Eddie Howe two weeks to make a decision or we move on, they could have then appointed Ange and the team would have been better prepared not only for the Glasgow Derby but I would be willing to bet my house that we would be in the Champions League group stages.

Of course, that is all conjecture and even after the derby defeat, the positive signs are there that the club is now moving in the right direction and after this transfer window closes, we will see exactly where the team stands.

Exciting times are ahead for the club. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
