Celtic have been active in the transfer market already this season.

Yuki Kobayashi is already tied up and if Fabrizio Romano is to be believed, Alistair Johnston will not be too far behind either.

But with extra additions, come players who will have to leave the club to not only keep the squad balanced, but for the betterment of their own futures.

The arrival of Kobayashi has cast doubt on the future of one Celtic player. That’s according to former striker Andy Walker.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Walker said, “That’s the problem of being part of a big squad. But you want to play.

“And I think Stephen Welsh is a player that can get better so he’s one who might have to think about his future.

“I think it’s Cameron Carter-Vickers who has really excelled. His leadership has been absolutely terrific, defensively, for Celtic take and it’s him and one other.

“With Starfelt and Jenz and now Kobayashi, it’s a strong defensive partnership that Ange Postecoglou can look for there. Any two from four.”

I’ll be honest. I agree with Andy.

I wrote a piece at the end of October predicting that the signing of Kobayashi could spell the end of Stephen Welsh’s Celtic career because it is simply not feasible that the team can facilitate having five central defenders all vying for two places.

Especially when CCV, Starfely and Jenz are all regular starters under Ange.

Whether it be a loan move or a permanent one, I think it’s best all round if Welsh does look to play his football elsewhere.
