As the debate rumbles on whether or not Celtic striker, Leigh Griffiths, deserves another year at Celtic, a journalist had an amazing on air rant at the striker and accused the Scotland international of showing the Hoops ‘blatant disrespect’.

Griffiths has struggled to get sufficient game time at Celtic Park this season and after well documented off field issues, the Celtic board have still yet to activate the option of keeping the striker on for the extra season.

After being heavily linked with Aberdeen and Hibernian, journalist Roger Hannah, had a swipe at Griffiths on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard and he didn’t hold back, “I can’t see the Celtic team sheet but I’m quite sure among the substitutes it says ‘Leigh Griffiths but only if you can get him right’.  Because every time we mention the man’s name on the show, the caveat is ‘if you can get him right‘.

“I think Leigh Griffiths has shown a blatant disrespect to Celtic this season. Coming back overweight, unfit and unable to participate in the team.

“Now, he’s scored thirty nine goals in four years.  Ajeti and Klimala will score thirty nine goals in four years, it wont be enough, but they will score thirty nine goals in four years.

Should Leigh Griffiths get another year at Celtic?

YES

NO

NO

“So, the only chance Leigh Griffiths has got at staying with Celtic is if they take him into a room and the renegotiate the terms of his contract because the contract is currently on, and the one that Celtic need to trigger the final year on, it is not worth the money.

“If he’s willing to go in and take substantially less money, albeit it is probably still more than he would earn at an Aberdeen or a Hibernian then Leigh Griffiths may have a chance of staying”

You can’t really argue with Hannah’s assertion and with Griffiths needing game time to not only get him up to speed for club, with the Euro’s approaching, his country will also require his services over the summer.

Griffiths undoubtedly has the talent to contribute to the Hoops cause next season, but he needs to improve his attitude and work ethic to justify Celtic triggering that year long extension.
