When you’re a top team, as Celtic are, criticism is always going to come from all angles, and especially given our current position, the Hoops are always going to be a target.
The latest man to throw a bit of criticism our way is Chris Sutton. A regular pundit on all things Celtic, he often has some pretty good things to say about the club, but this time? Not so much.
Speaking following our win at the weekend with BT Sport, Sutton has described the club as ‘regressing’ in Europe – before questioning fans who seem to value domestic success over European success. Take a look at the full clip below…

Now, whilst granted we haven’t been at our best in Europe as of late, it’s certainly not true to say that we aren’t particularly bothered about success there – and that’s exactly what many fans have had to say in response to Sutton’s remarks.
Lots of Celtic fans have responded to Sutton on Twitter, and it’s fair to say that they aren’t buying what he’s had to say. Some are simply stating that success in Europe is unlikely, given our budget, whilst others have rightly suggested that continental success can only come if it is predated by domestic success.
Take a look at what they’ve had to say below…
It’s not we don’t won’t success it’s been real we didn’t spend in the summer and lost our best striker who wasn’t replaced. This season for me Europe is just a bonus the league is more important

It’s not that we don’t want it. We just know the level we are at and are happy with it.

He’s talking nonsense, we want to win every game, however beating Rangers is always the priority and always has been.

Rather more importance was placed on continued domestic dominance and breaking our 9 in a row record by getting 10 or more.
Don’t have the finances to impact in Europe.

Won’t be in Europe if you don’t win domestically

What else is there ? No chance for European success.
