Another day, another pundit/ex player giving their opinion on who should become the next Celtic gaffer.  Former Celtic striker, John Hartson, reckons there is only one choice but Celtic would need to tempt him out of international football to take on the Parkhead top job.

Speaking to The Daily Record, Hartson says current Scotland manager, Steve Clarke, is the man for him as he has great experience and worked for current Tottenham boss, Jose Mourinho, for many years, “I really like Steve Clarke.  He did a brilliant job with Kilmarnock. He’s got vast experience and worked under Mourinho for many years and worked at Liverpool as well. Steve comes into the fray very high up the ladder for me, but he is the national coach of his country and they are in the Euros.

Steve Clarke as new Celtic gaffer?

YES

NO

“It entirely comes down to him about how he feels about club management and international management. They are two different things altogether. I remember speaking to people like Chris Coleman, John Toshack and Mark Hughes, managers of mine over the years.

“You get the players seven or eight times a year, and if you’re someone like Chris Coleman who likes a bit of golf as well, the international set-up will suit you. It will suit some managers because they haven’t got the day to day activity. So maybe Steve is enjoying that aspect. You don’t get much bigger jobs than managing your country. It’s the pinnacle. It’s the top of the tree.”

Steve Clarke certainly has what Celtic need at the moment and that is the ability to sort out a defence and make teams hard to beat but would he be able to deliver the style of football Celtic fans demand week in week out?
