Skipper Scott Brown and leading marksman Kris Commons both scored twice as Celtic extracted revenge on Aberdeen with a 5-2 victory at Parkhead.

Brown fired them in front midway through the opening half and then restored their lead after ex-Celt Niall McGinn had equalised.

Anthony Stokes added a third following the break but Shaleum Logan immediately replied ahead of Commons recording a double.

Commons earlier struck an effort wide after collecting from Leigh Griffiths and also headed over following McGinn and Stokes both exchanging efforts at goal.

Brown then surged inside the area and struck past Jamie Langfield for the opening goal. But a mistake from Adam Matthews allowed McGinn to seize upon his back-pass and round Fraser Forster to equalise.

PFA Scotland Player of the Year Commons responded with a powerful drive at the keeper, until Matthews delivered for Brown to reclaim the advantage with a low finish just ahead of the interval.

In-form striker Stokes soon added to it when reacting to Charlie Mulgrew’s shot and forcing in at the near post after Barry Robson had called Forster into action early in the second-half.

But Logan immediately located the far corner with a tremendous 25-yard finish to bring the visitors straight back into it.

However, it needed a fingertip save from Langfield to keep out Commons while penalty claims against Efe Ambrose were waved aside following a challenge on Johnny Hayes.

Celtic moved further in front when Stokes played in Commons to finish into the corner before Willo Flood struck an upright for the visitors during the later stages.

Commons then settled any remaining doubt after taking substitute Beram Kayal’s inviting pass and increasing his personal tally for the season to thirty just before the end.
