Celtic manager Ronny Deila believes Jozo Simunovic will prove a major signing and may well turn out as good as predecessor Virgil van Dijk.

“We know that we have got a very talented boy” – Ronny Deila

Croatian Under-21 international centre-back Simunovic was recruited from Dinamo Zagreb for a fee of around £5.5m while the Dutchman was exiting for Southampton in a reported £11.5m deal.

“I think he has the potential,” Deila told the Daily Record. “I gave a lot of credit
to Virgil last year and I did it because I really meant that he is a top player.

“We have scouted Jozo for a long time and we think he has the attributes that [means] we can make him a big player,” he added. “But he is 21 and it will take some time to get to the highest level, of course. But we know that we have got a very talented boy.”
