Well in fairness, I think that’s about all he can hope for at this stage of his career.

According to reports, AFC Bournemouth midfielder Jordan Ibe is high on Celtic’s radar when it comes to their business in the summer transfer window, with Football Insider revealing that the 24-year-old is even willing to take a pay cut from his £40k per week that he is earning with the Cherries in order to make the move happen.

And speaking to Football Insider, former Premier League forward Noel Whelan thinks that the move is a no brainer when it comes to Ibe joining the Bhoys, although it could very well be one of the last big moves that the winger makes if he doesn’t sort himself out:

“To be given a lifeline with Celtic, Champions League football and challenging for the title, what an amazing turnaround that would be. He would need to grasp that with both hands because he did not have a good spell at Bournemouth. It is like Christmas all at once. To go somewhere like Celtic and be winning things with a very good manager and a very good squad. This is his last chance.”

I think a lifeline is not only the best that both us fans and Ibe can hope for.

Would you be in favour of a move for Ibe?

Yes

Yes

No

No

As I said on Monday, Ibe hasn’t exactly had the best of times at Bournemouth, only scoring four goals in five seasons under Eddie Howe, so the only real benefit to us even considering making this move is the fact it’s a free transfer because he will be out of contract, and as a result we don’t have that much risk associated with the deal.

Hopefully the boost that Whelan talks about, all the added incentive that coming to Celtic Park and what we can offer him will be enough to convince him to give his career a little kick up the backside.
