As Celtic scour the market for a permanent right back, it seems the answer could be right under their noses according to Noel Whelan who was speaking to Football Insider. After losing Jeremie Frimpong in the January window and a move looking likely for Hatem Elhamed in the summer, the Hoops could potentially find themselves short for cover on the flanks with rookie, Anthony Ralston, being the only recognised right back at the club.
Whelan, an ex Aberdeen striker, was gushing in his praise for new Celtic recruit Jonjoe Kenny and reckons the youngster could be available in the summer, if the Hoops choose to make the move permanent, “He’s a young player that probably needs to play regularly,
“He’s gone to a big club, yes they’re having an up and down season and are not going to win the league. But it looks like now they’re trying to rebuild a little bit.
“I know it’s a loan but it might turn into a permanent if he puts in performances that are worthy of a bid from Celtic.
“The opportunity is there for him to be at a big, big club next season.
“If he was required at Everton they would have not let him go. It seems to me he’s available for a permanent move as well.
“All he’s got to do now is get his head down, he’s got quality, he’s very young and got time on his side.
“Come next season if he puts in some good performances then that could be a permanent move.”
