The enigma of Karamoko Dembelé is one that will always be looked at with confused wonderment.

A youngster once described by L’Equipe as “Vivid and agile, the British striker seems destined for a great career, although questions still surround him, especially his final decision on the international stage.” Dembelé was listed by the respected French football outlet as one of the top six wonderkids of his time.

Ever since his home debut against Hearts in the Neil Lennon era, young Karamoko has faded back into the background and has not been seen since.

At just 18 years old it does seem as though the dynamic forward still has plenty of time to make his mark on the Celtic first team but a report today from The Daily Record has hinted that maybe Dembelé just isn’t making the grade.

In an interview with young Celtic midfielder, Scott Robertson, the loaned out youngster said, “From the first day the new manager arrived, he told us all that no matter what your age is, if you are good enough then you will play for him.

“It was great to hear him say that. He said we would get opportunities and I think he’s shown that already with Adam’s [Montgomery] promotion into the first team that he’s true to his word.

So where does Dembelé fit in? Is he good enough? If not then why has he not been loaned out to gain valuable first team experience? Or is Postecoglou waiting for the right time to unleash the young forward on the league?

Either way, it won’t matter as according to popular football media site Football Fancast, the Parkhead club may already have found their new Dembelé in Scotland u17 star Ben Doak.

Doak scored a wonderful looping header against the Welsh kids that announced the young midfielder to the world.

And the report claims that the 15 year old could be one that takes Dembelé’s young pretender crown as he is making ‘all the right noises’ at youth level, “That being said, they [Celtic] have another fine young winger coming through the ranks that could well usurp Dembele if you believe the hype.

“That happens to be Ben Doak who starred for Scotland U17s a few days ago.

“Just 15, it will be a while before we see him on the senior stage but he is making all the right noises in academy football.”

And Scotland u17 manager Brian McLaughlin was just as complimentary about Doaks’ attitude in training for the young Scottish lions, “Ben Doak did well tonight and he’s a great player.

“He’s a good threat and great character around training as well.

“His attitude towards training is infectious and there’s no doubt that he loved his debut for the 17s tonight.”

Postecoglou certainly does have a plethora of young talent coming through the ranks.

Let’s hope Dembelé is the next one to make his push onto the first team and show the fans that his ability is not just paper talk.
