Hoops in battle for highly rated Irish wonderkid

|

Celtic have joined the race to sign Irish wonderkid, Sinclair Armstrong, from Queens Park Rangers on a pre contract agreement.  The Hoops face stiff competition from Manchester City and Crystal Palace.

Armstrong joined the London club from Shamrock Rovers back in October 2020 initially on a one year deal and were hopeful of securing the young forwards signature but that seems to have backfired as he is now free to speak to other clubs.

Armstrong made his professional for Shamrock Rovers in 2018 when he was just 15 years old and made six full first team appearances for the club.  Before he joined QPR, Armstrong was being chased by German Bundesliga club Hoffenheim.  Armstrong has also represented the Republic of Ireland at u17 level and is widely regarded as the best young talent to come out of the country in years.

Celtic are in the driving seat to capture the youngsters signature as they are regarded as an overseas club and have used this rule to their advantage before, when they signed Moussa Dembele from Fulham for a cut price deal of around £600,000.

Sinclair could be tempted to join the Hoops with the promise of guaranteed European football every season, which has seen many of the Parkhead’s clubs young stars previously capture the limelight to help secure themselves moves to a more lucrative league.  The young Irishman can look to former players such as Virgil Van Djik, Victor Wanyama, Moussa Dembele and Ki Sung Yeung as inspiration for a possible move to Paradise.
