Celtic fans are far from impressed after the officials for this Sunday’s Glasgow Derby was announced and reported by The Daily Record.
John Beaton is the man in charge as he takes control of his first derby since December 2018 when a string of controversial and lenient decisions led to Alfredo Morelos, remarkably, remaining on the park.
The whistler has also apologised to Steven Gerrard after giving Rangers a free-kick rather than a penalty in the 2-2 draw with Aberdeen at Pittodrie earlier this season.
Few encounters between the two Glasgow giants pass without controversy and the SFA are leaving themselves wide open with the appointment of a referee with a catalogue of poor decision making behind him, and that’s just this season.
Will this weekend's Glasgow Derby pass without incident?
Yes
No
Hoops fans took to Twitter at the announcement, far from happy that someone who regularly gets things so badly wrong has been given such a pressure filled job.
Is there any chance of VAR on sunday wee beaton is the ref. Why why why would the sfa put him in charge of an celtic v rangers again after the last time ? Its horrendus decision making from the top again.#CelticFC

I agree. “Madman” is as good as we have. Certainly Beaton should never be in charge of the fixture ever. He is an appalling referee.

Beating them on their own slag heap Sunday to clinch the 9 with Beaton and Ross in their line up will be pure unadulterated magic

Celtic’s run of form since the last fixture of 2019 should still be enough to see off a struggling Rangers side coughing up goals and being wasteful at the other end, Neil Lennon’s line-up will be the biggest signal of intent as he looks to repeat the feat of the first derby of the season and leave Ibrox with all three points once again.
