Hospitality for PSV- Opinion

There seems to be a lot of upset Ranger’s fans that a majority of Celtic fans will be cheering for PSV tonight and next week in the Champions League Qualifiers. Or indeed why the PSV Eindhoven team were given a VIP tour around Celtic Park before their match at Ibrox tonight. Among the dignitaries was former Celt, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

One corporate visitor told the Scottish Daily Express;

“I don’t know if Rangers will like that we have gone to visit Celtic! It was a good trip and we learned a lot from Jan, who seems to know everything about Celtic. We had a very good meal there too and we were well looked after.”

Of course it completely makes sense for our club and fans to wish the Dutch team well in their games against our biggest rivals. Not solely for bragging rights that we will be the only Scottish team in the Champions League. There are further financial considerations. With two Scottish clubs in the Champions League, the TV money, which has been reduced to £6.1m this year would be split. So entry for Rangers would lead to £3 million loss for us. Added to that, the financial boost we will gain this season, if spent properly will allow us to further extend our grip as the dominant force in Scottish Football.

So I’ve no concerns cheering on the red and white tonight.
