The Peter Lawwell appointment has caused such a stir over the weekend that social media has been awash with anger, apathy and a sense of impending doom.

There are those who are neither here nor there when it comes to the appointment of the controversial former CEO and will point to Celtic’s domestic record whilst Lawwell was at the helm.

But to caveat that, there are also those that point to our lack of progression in Europe in the 17 years he was in charge.

Many fans are of the opinion that Lawwell could get himself involved in the footballing side of matters whilst in power and it could cause division and friction between him and Ange Postecoglou.

And veteran journalist, Hugh Keevins, has sent the incoming non-Executive Chairman a stern message should he decide to interfere in Ange’s business.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Keevins was answering a fan point that Ange would walk should that happen when he replied, “You will be to be very lucky to have Ange Postecoglou in a year or two anyway because Ange Postecoglou is doing such a job at Celtic Park that he’s going to come onto the radar of clubs in England.

“And inevitably, one day, one of them will try to entice him away from Celtic.

“However, in the meantime, Peter Lawwell would be well advised not to step into Ange’s territory.

“Ange Postecoglou for almost a year and a half now has done a tremendous job for Celtic.

“He inherited chaos and he turned it into a title. He has started the season with 15 league games and one defeat.

“So Peter Lawwell, who doesn’t come into the building until the 1st of January, would be well advised not to interfere with the football department.

“It’s none of his concern and he has to leave Ange Postecoglou well alone or Ange Postecoglou will not like it.”

Many fans will agree on the point that Lawwell would do well to stay away from first-team matters and that includes recruitment but should we be concerned about Ange being poached in a year or two by an English club?

I don’t think so.

Ange has made it abundantly clear where he sees himself and his vision for this club and I would imagine that to get where he wants us, Postecoglou will be at Paradise for two years, and beyond.

How good is your knowledge of the Martin O’Neill era?
