There’s not much you can say about the weekend except that it was a brilliant weekend for cup football. Well, from a Celtic perspective anyway.

As the Hoops squeezed past St Johnstone with a 1-0 win, our rivals, Rangers, were horsed 3-1 in the second Premier Sports Cup semi final on Sunday that just topped off an excellent return to domestic football after a very good international break.

The fallout, of course, is all about our rivals capitulation once more in cup football and as they, again, show they do not have the bottle to cross the line when it matters in a one off game, Celtic’s record over recent years has been unsurpassed.

A Quadruple Treble shows you how seriously we take the domestic cups.

Even though the focus for both Glasgow teams is to win the league, we all love a bit of cup magic and that should never be taken for granted.

So I found it particularly strange that when addressing a Rangers fan calling into Clyde 1 Superscoreboard to laughably claim that they are more interested in the league title, Hugh Keevins, quite rightly, took the fan to task but somehow managed to drag Celtic into this stupid and pointless call, “Of course the league is the most important thing because it offers access to the Champions League it offers lots of money.

“However, all I ever read about hear about at Celtic and Rangers is that you must win. Every week. You must win. Week in, week out.

“There’s this lazy frame of mind that’s creeping in that the cups aren’t important.

“You know since Steven Gerrard got here, lost Aberdeen twice in semi finals in his first season. Lost in the Scottish Cup to Hearts in his second season, who were subsequently relegated.

“Lost to Celtic in the League Cup final. Last season lost to St Mirren and St Johnstone in cup football.

“Now they’ve lost to Hibs. I don’t think it’s acceptable for Rangers or Celtic to say, ‘Ach cups don’t matter’,  when at the same time, all you ever hear is you must win every week.”

I guess Hugh must have momentarily forgotten that Celtic won TWELVE domestic trophies in a row. He must have also forgot that we won a cup double under Wim Jansen in one of Celtic’s most important seasons in our history.

I guess he must have also forgotten that it’s okay to criticise Rangers and leave Celtic out of it. No one will judge you, like Celtic fans are now.

Is that sad decrepit auld trilobite Keevins still pretending to have
an objective insight into football – No way!

Hugh Keevins IS the slow painful decline of the tabloid newspapers, personified.
Allowing him to believe that he still has a valid input to Scottish football is akin to
    a form of abuse.

    Poor old man.

Shug hasn’t had a good thing to say about Celts ever since he was horsed out London Rd supporters club. Soup-taker extraordinaire. HH
