One of the biggest stories of the season so far is Celtic and their ambition to sign Jota on a long term contract.

With the young Portuguese winger in sparkling form for the Hoops, the Celtic fans are hoping that the board will shell out the reported £6.5m to make the move permanent either in the next transfer window or at the end of the current deal.

But an interesting story broke this week about another one of Celtic’s loan stars, Cameron Carter Vickers.

Carter Vickers has been an absolute rock for the team since his arrival from Tottenham in the summer and has impressed the fans who had to endure a torturous season of defensive calamities in their hunt for ten in a row.

As reports surfaced of the London club looking for £10m to secure Carter Vickers services permanently, Stephen McGowan poured cold water on that price tag when speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard“One of the frustrations for the Celtic fans over the years has been the projects.

“Spending one, one and a half million on Dudu Dahan signings, bringing them in, don’t all necessarily work out.

“And you wonder sometimes if they would be better actually spending a bit more on players of quality.

“Look at Edouard, okay, probably couldn’t get quite as much for Edouard ain the end as they wanted.

“But, you know, you tend to invest a bit of money you tend to get it back eventually.

“I maybe just wonder if a Carter Vickers and a Jota, just those couple of pieces of quality they should prioritise rather than in gambling on the Ismail Soro type settings.

“But £10m? Again, I repeat, I don’t know if  that figures accurate or not. I really don’t.

“I think that’s a bit rich and I couldn’t really see Celtic paying that anyway.”

It remains to be seen if this £10m price is, in fact, correct, but the major worry for the Celtic fans would be the boards ambition to stump up that kind of cash if required.
