This is a player that simply just divides attention between the Celtic support.
His performance in the Champions League qualifier against FC Midtjylland left a lot to be desired when his ordering off changed the course of the tie and finally broke the patience of the Hoops support.
Nir Bitton has been a Celtic player for about eight years now. Signed from Israeli team FC Ashdod for just over £500,000, the Israeli international has made over 240 appearances for the club.
Starting his career as a defensive midfielder, during most of his time at Celtic Park he has been employed as a make shift centre back until he was reverted back to his more natural position to help earn the team a 2-1 up at Pittodrie just before the international break.
But, according to former Celtic defender, Mark Wilson, the 29 year old isn’t particularly happy with being asked at playing as a central defender and has been unhappy ever since.
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Wilson said, “He’s just a good player that you can depend on at centre half. Is he a centre half?
“Well he’s been used that way for the last three years and I don’t think through his doing.
“Early on I heard through a couple of good sources says that he didn’t particularly enjoy playing there.
“But it was basically through necessity and he kind of grew and into that position.
“He’s always been a centre midfielder and going away to Motherwell, I would be very surprised if he wasn’t in that starting line up as I think he gives you that physicality.”
Well it looks like under Ange, he will deployed as a defensive midfielder, not only because he’s the best of a bad bunch, but also out of necessity.
