As the drums continue to beat on the new managerial set up at Celtic, former Celtic defender, Gary Caldwell, has revealed that he has personal ties with one potential candidate, Fergal Harkin.

Speaking on last nights Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Caldwell gave an insight to the man he knows and gave a glowing endorsement to the former Leicester City man, who funnily enough, learned his trade under ex Celtic manager, Martin O’Neill, “Fergal is someone I know well.  And Fergal would be a great Sporting Director. He’s someday that’s worked at Man City for a long time. He’s worked in recruitment he’s worked there as a loans manager, and he’s somebody that understands football, modern day football in terms of the business obviously Man City is a global brand like Celtic is.

Would you have John Kennedy as next Celtic manager?

YES

NO

“So he is somebody I know well from living near him down in England and he’s the type of person that you need for that type of role. He’s been there as that club has has grown a huge amount. As he was he was there they have acquire different clubs all over the world. He’s been in that process of building those relationships with different clubs, how the play in philosophy then transfers to different clubs so he’s very good at understanding that process.

“He knows recruitment really well, he’s somebody that I’ve got a couple of loan players off when I’ve been at different clubs so as that type of person and that type of experience within that side of the game. It doesn’t need to be from a coaching background, it doesn’t need to know how to coach players, that’s the head coach’s responsibility.”

A glowing endorsement indeed from Caldwell who has great knowledge of the English game and Harkin seems to tick all the boxes in terms of recruitment , loans and his experience working on the global market.
