This is a rumour that has been doing the rounds for weeks now. Could the return of Martin O’Neill REALLY be happening this summer?
As Celtic are seemingly still looking at restructuring the club, rumours of a Director of Football appointment have been swirling around the Parkhead corridors and it looks like they won’t be stopping anytime soon.
One pundit that is having his say on the role is Football Insider‘s, Gabby Agbonlahor. The former England striker has pinpointed his “great” appointment and it will come as no surprise to the eltic fans who he recommends, “I think it could be a good appointment.
“Martin O’Neill knows the club better than anyone. It would be a perfect appointment. He loves the club so he’s the sort of person who can get the right players in and the right system in place.
“He loves Celtic and he won’t want them to be losing the title to Rangers again.
“So, definitely, I think it would be a great appointment.”
There is no doubt that this would be an extremely popular appointment amongst the Celtic fans. Arguably the Hoops best manager since Jock Stein, O’Neill would be the perfect fit for the club.
His knowledge of the Scottish game and British transfer market would be an invaluable source for new manager, Ange Postecoglou, to tap into and his obvious love for the club would mean he would do anything to get it back to the summit of Scottish football and feared again as a European destination.
Would he be Dom McKay’s choice? That remains to be seen.
