With many expecting the imminent arrival of Eddie Howe over the weekend, much has been made of how much money it will take for Celtic to wrestle the league title back from our neighbours across the Clyde.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, reporter Mark Guidi, gave an absolutely eye watering prediction of the amounts of cash he reckons it would take for the Hoops to rebuild the side properly to be crowned kings of Scotland, “I think Eddie Howe will tap into the loan market for a couple of real seasoned ones down the road that are maybe surplus to requirements.

“But you need leaders. You need players with a mentality to handle playing for Celtic and handle the pressure that comes with that.

Which area of the team requires the most investment?

“I wouldn’t be surprised, to get some proper quality in and using his judgement to get a couple of good loans in you’re looking at a minimum net spend £20 million.

“So that means, for me, if you’re bringing in £25m for Edouard and the rest, then you’ve got to spend £45m. If you’re wanting to be real and get the title back, then that is what is going to take”.

Quite the prediction from Guidi and probably bordering on nonsensical. Never in Scottish football history has a club ever spent that kind of money in one season.

The last time a team was spending those types of sums of money, it went bankrupt, didn’t pay it’s taxes and well, the rest as you all know very well, is history.
