As the goalkeeping debate runs on and on and with, by all accounts, the expected incoming of Joe Hart from Tottenham Hotspur, former Celtic midfielder Davie Provan has said it’s time to offload Celtic misfit Vasilis Barkas.

Barkas was dropped for Scott Bain in Celtic’s crucial Champions League qualifier last night in what  seems to be the final nail in the Greek keeper’s coffin and Provan reckons the time is now to say goodbye to Barkas.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Provan said, “I think we’ve seen enough of them to know that he’s not up to it.

“It was unfortunate for Postecoglou he came into Celtic so late and he has not had time to assess the players.

“He goes with Barkas in the first leg and Barkas sells the jerseys. Now that’s not Postecoglou’s fault.  He’s trying to get to know his players.

“And you know if I’m Celtic I’m onto Barkas’ agent and saying, ‘Look it hasn’t worked. Sorry, find your client another club‘, because as far as I can see he has no future that Celtic at all.”

The future certainly does not bode well for Barkas and with Celtic’s on the trail for Joe Hart, it would seem that the Hoops will be looking to offload the £5m flop as soon as the replacement is signed.

With the Hoops getting ready for their opening league fixture against Hearts on Saturday night and if Bain is chosen to start, Barkas will need to go and himself a new club as that really would be the writing on the wall for him.
