This is a story  that has been reported since the summer. The Herald reported that a return to Celtic was on the cards for Derby keeper David Marshall, and speaking on last nights Go Radio Football Show, the former Scotland number 1 gave an update on when he sees a move happening away from the administration hit club.

Vital Celtic also reported back in August that Marshall would be a priority signing according to Hugh Keevins, before the signing of Joe Hart, but what if Hart was suspended or injured? Who would the Hoops turn to then?

Marshall said of his current situation, “I’m desperate to get out in January, obviously, difficult with Derby’s situation with the club going into administration.

“So it’s a difficult time and sometimes these things are taken out of your hands as a footballer.

“I disappointed how it [failed move] happened in the summer.  Never really give me enough time to get somewhere.

“Obviously the knock on of that is you lose your spot in the Scotland squad.

“So I’m looking at the minute to try and get something sorted for January but nothing yet but I’m sure the closer it gets there will be a few options there.

“I’m training with the first team every day. There’s not been an issue [with fitness] that way.

“I’ve not had any fitness issues, so hopefully early January something will come.”

With Celtic looking to make some moves in the transfer window, and the gaffer Ange Postecoglou himself making any new player additions a priority, it does seem as though there may be something in this.

But would Marshall be happy returning to Celtic as second fiddle to Hart as he clearly wants to get his international career back on track?
