Is there really a doubt on whether the Captain should play? Really?

|

The debate will rumble on until the team is announced on Sunday for the Scottish Cup Final against Hearts but for me there is absolutely no question that Scott Brown should play. Putting the sentimental part of the argument aside, on a merely footballing side for a game of this magnitude the Captain should most definitely play and here is my opinion why.

He’s a winner first of all.  Scott Brown has been our Captain since February 2010 and during that time he has won nine League titles in a row, five Scottish Cups and five League Cups.  An ever present during the Invincibles season and a Captain through the Treble Treble seasons and during this, almost Quadruple Season. The man  knows how to motivate the team before the match and his presence and aura on the pitch sets fear amongst his opponents.

He is a man that inspires those around him.  Remember the Aberdeen game when he was almost physically assaulted by three players? I don’t know about you but that reaction and how he just got up, celebrated the tackles and got the fans going made me fill with pride.  THAT’s what is needed when your team is needing someone to turn to.   If you were ever in doubt at what he brings to the team, then watch this video.

When the big games come around, and the team march out of the tunnel, you see those fixed eyes. That stare that shows the opponents that you are going to be in for a helluva game.  Let me ask you one final question.  If you were in that starting eleven on Sunday and you looked around you. Who would you prefer standing next to you to lead you into the biggest game of your life and the clubs history?
